We Are Legion [We Are Bob] by Dennis E. Taylor is (I think) a three book series that was recommended to me by a co-worker. I was expecting something a little like Matt Dinniman and the Dungeon Carl Crawler series, but the Bobiverse as it’s known, is much heavier on the scifi and lighter on the writing. I would compare it more to Hail Mary in style and theme although I prefer Hail Mary with its focused story line rather than a series of threads / storylines as the AI Bobs multiply in the universe and spread out to deal with recovering earth/humans, aliens, other AIs from warring nation states, basic exploration...the list and movement between Bobs gets pretty involved.
Still...a fun diversion and Taylor certainly has a strong interest in scifi – and science without the fiction – ideas and this gives him a chance to explore many of them all in one place. So if you think of it as a general exploration of many themes, it feels more cohesive. I’ll definitely read the follow ups. I’m interested in how he handles other civilizations the Bobs seem to be encountering.
