• 11/8/2021: Murderous Fox Spirit Gets an Update in Korean Quarterly by Rachel Kim.
• Enjoyed it, particularly as it relates to the tv series of Lovecraft Country and Love, Sex, and Robots.  Really has been a revival of that particular bit of folklore and a change in how it's handled.

• Interesting story about an alien artist working in ice messing up the world.  I'm not sure the GN was great, but it was a clever idea to explore, particularly against the connection with one human artist.

Clearly not correct.  I'm going to put a pin in it and start over in November.  There were a lot of things I read part of over this three month weirdness, but had to keep setting down.   : The Book of M by Peng Shepherd
• A love story when it all comes down to it.  A weird one.  I liked it, but I didn't enjoy the "wrap up" at the end for all the characters as much as the journey.  And, as far as the journey, I had to change my expectations a bit as I like things a bit more connected than the wandering aspect [a little Lord of the Rings-ish with the different paths intersecting, but no coordinated reason for intersecting other than a similar target at the end].

  • Why machine learning struggles with causality
  • Machine learning systems thrive on finding and exploiting statistical regularities. This is why they can’t do causal reasoning.
  • I also like "we don't need to drive a car off a cliff to know what will happen" - reminds me of Dwight and Michael following the GPS despite what their eyes told them was wrong.
  • ML and computers in general can interfere with your native capacity for counterfactuals is probably an amusing area of study.
