I've been reading the Nebula Awards 2007 (edited by Mike Resnick), among other things, and I have a favorite quote. It's from Dale Bailey's (traditionally a horror writer) story, "The End of the World as We Know It".
"He did not see any evidence of looting. Everybody was too dead to loot; that's the way it is at the end of the world."
